Anthony Nolan is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer. In 1974, it set up the world’s first bone marrow register to match donors with people who need a transplant and since then has enabled more than 13,000 transplants to take place. As well as running the register and providing education and awareness, in 2008, the charity also set up a state-of-the-art Cell Therapy Centre for banking umbilical cord blood and conducting ground breaking research.

Over a 40-year history, we’ve built a poignant and powerful story, both in the UK and globally. In the last five years we have seen the number of transplants double as well as our turnover. We’ve invested in new scientific technology, strengthened our offer to patients and raised our profile and income as well as delivering vital research which has changed the way blood cancer is treated.

We’re an ambitious charity and our vision is to save the lives of everyone who needs a transplant: we’re looking for a Director of Engagement who shares our commitment to turn this into reality.

You will be an exceptional and experienced leader who thrives as part of a dynamic executive team. Responsible for leading the development and implementation of our fundraising and communications strategies, you will inspire, empower and motivate a substantial, multi-functional team to deliver a step change in our income and continue to raise our profile. A key member of our executive team, you will work with the Chief Executive, colleagues and the Board as we take key decisions about our future.

Entrepreneurial and strategic in your approach, you will bring a proven track record of success in fundraising at a senior level with a firm understanding of communications and the intrinsic value of an integrated fundraising and communications strategy. A confident communicator, you will bring the credibility and drive to engage effectively both inside and outside the organisation and galvanise a multi-functional team to grow our fundraising income and ensure the public continues to be aware of the vital role we play in saving the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders.  You can be sure that the role you play has a direct bearing on the lives we save.
