Trillion Trees Manager – The Role

Deforestation and forest degradation remain principle challenges for sustainable development. We are advocating for natural forest loss to have ended by 2030 and for 350 million hectares of forest landscapes to be under restoration. We are mobilising political, economic and social forces to achieve that aim.

In this context, WWF-UK has entered into a joint venture with BirdLife International and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) called Trillion Trees. This venture is based on a shared vision:

By mid-century, through concerted collective action by all sectors of society, one trillion trees have been re-grown, saved from loss and better protected around the world.

Trillion Trees will work towards this in three ways:

Harnessing our networks in over 100 countries and decades of experience and expertise in fighting deforestation and restoring forests through a dedicated and nimble team.

Targeted support to close the gap between commitments to protect and restore forests and the reality on the ground. We will connect ambitious initiatives to forward-thinking funders and investors to create partnerships that deliver for forests around the world.

To inspire others to work towards our vision through communication, research and demonstration.

As Manager you will lead the initiative within WWF and alongside our partners will set strategic direction and priorities. You will control budgets as well as develop and execute shared strategy and work plans. In addition you will monitor progress and report to on successes and challenges to the steering committee. Your remit will include overseeing internal and external communications to promote engagement and attract support too. You will also identify opportunities for funding and finance or new implementation actions by staying in touch with developments on forest policy and finance, forest related climate actions and restoration initiatives. Important will be the ability to seek out and promote new collaborations, and develop relationships with prospective funding organisations or individuals.

Trillion Trees Manager – Requirements

You must have an excellent understanding of global forest conservation and management issues coupled with the capability to manage programmes and budgets. You will have experience in leveraging public and private finance for forest or other related conservation programmes too.

An excellent communicator, you will excel at building internal and external relationships and partnerships. Used to operating in an international environment you will also be enthusiastic about working in a network and in a matrix fashion.

A team player, you are adept at overcoming obstacles and can demonstrate a commitment to the natural world and WWF’s core mission. Knowledge of key issues in forest conservation in Latin America and East Africa would be an advantage.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
