Director of Services and Influencing

We are a rapidly growing charity seeking to accelerate change for those affected by brain tumours, which kill more children and adults under 40 in the UK than any other cancer.  Our five-year strategy is ambitious and sets out plans to double survival from brain tumours and halve the harm they cause to quality of life.  We are looking for a passionate, smart and pioneering Director of Services and Influencing to join our talented and developing team.

Every year almost 11,000 people receive the devastating diagnosis of a brain tumour, over 5,000 lose their lives to this disease each year. Nearly 600 of those diagnosed are children and young people - that's an entire primary school - and almost a quarter of these will sadly die.  As the UK's pre-eminent brain tumour charity we are committed to change this.

We are determined to drive brain tumours up the national agenda, giving a voice to everyone affected by this devastating disease and accelerating the search for more effective treatments.  We need the right people to join us to help do this. This is what one of our team has to say about working here:

"Working for The Brain Tumour Charity means more than just a job. It means an opportunity to make your role your own, to grow personally and to be a part of transforming people's lives. It means being a part of something incredibly special and incredibly rewarding."

And having watched our 'Our Culture' video to find out a little more about working at The Brain Tumour Charity (find it on our YouTube channel), is this for you?

Our exciting role

The Director of Services and Influencing is a pivotal role in the organisation taking responsibility for key strategic initiatives and driving the organisation forward through a period of growth and change across our Support and Information services and Policy areas.

You will also take responsibility for contributing to the development and implementation of overall strategy, operating policies and procedures, team development and representing the Charity on external bodies and at events.

In May 2015 we launched our new, ambitious five year strategy ‘Defeating brain tumours’, which has two clear goals – to double survival and halve the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life.

To enable us to achieve our goals, you will be a strategic and operational thinker with a collaborative mind set and the courage to investigate bold new ideas and pioneering approaches to developing activities that impact to make a positive difference for people affected by a brain tumour.

You will have senior management experience preferably within health, social care, NHS/Third Sector or equivalent settings.  You will possess the skills to build strong relationships both internally and externally with key stakeholders including leaders in the policy and medical fields, working in an innovative, dynamic and demanding environment.

If you are interested in working for a national charity that punches well above its weight; has won a variety of awards for our HeadSmart campaign including the NHS Innovation Award, Third Sector Excellence Awards and Charity Times Awards amongst others - then we could be the Charity for you.

How to apply

If you thrive on challenge and a fast pace, then this could be your opportunity to work in a dynamic team and make a significant difference.  If you are educated to a high standard, articulate, personable, and ambitious then please send a supporting statement with your CV to us. Explain why you want the role, what you would bring to the team and how your skillset and experience will enable us to make a real impact for those affected by brain tumours.

In return, we offer work with amazing, dedicated and inspirational people and you will see the impact of the work you do every day; a salary of circa £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience) and you will be fortunate to work just outside of London yet be close enough to keep up your social life, meet your retail needs and political interests as the job will be based in Farnborough, Hampshire.

PLEASE NOTE: Advert closes on the 22 June 2018.
