NORTH OXFORD OVERSEAS CENTRE

DIRECTOR (FULL-TIME), OXFORD

This is an amended job description

SALARY £40k

The North Oxford Overseas Centre (NOOC) provides a home for overseas academic visitors to Oxford. It was founded in the 1970s and owns two large extended Victorian houses on the Banbury Road. The capacity is just over 100 and the Centre is always close to full; the annual income is some £500,000. The residents are mainly doctoral or post-graduate researchers at Oxford University, coming from many countries and staying for periods which vary between a few weeks and two years. NOOC is a registered housing provider with charitable status, and is a Christian foundation. The trustees and management are Christians, although the residents may be of any faith or none. The website is www.nooc.org.uk

The trustees are seeking a full-time Director to be responsible for all aspects of the Centre’s operations, leading a staff of ten people which includes an assistant director, an administrator, an accounts assistant, and housekeepers.

You will be responsible for housing management, finance, marketing, property maintenance and refurbishment, and the wellbeing of residents. You will work closely with the board of trustees and its committees, and prepare and attend their evening meetings. You will supervise out of hours response to emergencies and share in the on call arrangements, and attend some evening social activities.

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, it is a genuine Occupational Requirement that the post-holder should be a committed Christian. Mature thinking, leadership skills and pastoral sensitivity are essential, as are recent experience of general management and administration and the ability to relate to postgraduates and internationals. Experience in the property/housing or charity sectors would be an advantage.

We offer a salary of £40,000 per annum for a full-time position (37.5 hours per week, plus extra unpaid hours as required), plus 10% pension contributions and a holiday allowance of 35 days including bank and public holidays.
