Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Everything we do is informed and inspired by them.

We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

Location: Halifax
Contract type: Fixed Term - 3 months
Hours: 28 per week
Salary: £16,276 per annum (actual)

Closing date: 5pm on Thursday 21st June.
Interview date: Thursday 5th July

About the role:

In Calderdale we work to ensure people affected by dementia get the guidance and support they need to enable them to live well with the condition. We also create a greater understanding and acceptance of the needs of people with dementia within the general public.

As part of a well-respected team, the success candidate will provide a highly responsive and individualised information, signposting and referral service to people with a diagnosis of dementia and those who care for them. You will be helping people to access appropriate support and make contact with the right people for the help they need. You will be signposting to other appropriate services so it is essential that any information provided is accurate, accessible and understood by the service user.

The Dementia Adviser will also attend external and internal groups and meetings providing information about and promoting the local service and supporting individuals with any questions or concerns they may have. Within this role you will build relationships with a wide and diverse range of local contacts including, but not limited to GPs, mental health services, carers support services and other community based organisations. The post holder will also be involved in ongoing work to raise awareness of dementia and dementia support within BAME communities in the area.

You will have knowledge of working alongside of volunteers and have an understanding of the valuable contribution volunteers bring to services whilst championing their inclusion in all that we deliver.
About you:

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is motivated and passionate and who possesses NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a health and/or social care related subject. You must have an understanding and/or experience of dementia and the needs of those affected by it whilst ensuring empathy and respect are maintained at all times for people affected by dementia.

Your ability to provide person centred assessment of need along with a clear understanding of the need for client confidentiality is essential to providing this valuable and worthwhile service. To be successful in this role, you’ll have excellent non-judgemental communication skills as well as strong organisational and time management skills. You will be able to identify and overcome barriers to accessing services.

This role requires you to be extremely comfortable connecting with others and talking to a wide range of stakeholders. You will be speaking to people at all levels so great networking and influencing skills are also essential.

This role requires regular use of IT packages, therefore a good standard of IT would be desirable.
You will also need to be able to travel independently throughout Calderdale.

You will be asked to apply for an enhanced DBS check.
