Arts Emergency is an exciting young charity seeking it's first full time fundraiser. Join a passionate, fast growing team as we take our work national.

Low income does not mean low imagination, intelligence, or ambition. Those with the most potential are often the least able to justify the cost of an arts degree, and the least able pull favours, work for free, or find short cuts into creative & cultural work. Arts Emergency is an alternative to old boy networks. 

Founded by comedian Josie Long and campaigner Neil John Griffiths in 2013, the Charity now has over 3000 members nationally and supports hundreds of young people with mentors, work experience, visits, tickets to events, academic advice and real life professional contacts. 

We are seeking a full time fundraiser to join our dynamic team in Dalston and work closely with the Chief Executive and board to take our work national. Arts Emergency has practically doubled in size every year for the past 5 years with projects well established in London and Manchester. This role offers huge potential for growth and development for the successful candidate.

Main jobs:

  • Maintain and grow our portfolio of trusts and philanthropists, working to agreed income targets
  • Research, develop, and manage supporter relationships with an emphasis on face to face contact
  • Work with our CEO to develop our first formal fundraising strategy
  • Develop the very best propositions for all of Arts Emergency’s work
  • Create compelling, emotionally powerful funding applications complete with budgets, costings and financial data as appropriate
  • Steward and engage existing supporters and write high-quality reports and thank you letters
  • Prepare high-quality presentations, and fundraising materials as required
  • Use the fundraising database to log gifts, plan the monitoring of grants to ensure compliance with agreed outputs, and appropriately engage individual philanthropists
  • Conduct detailed, on-going research into new funding opportunities and prospective supporters
  • Play a full and active role in supporting the CEO to meet our ambitious targets
  • Undertake any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post
  • Maintain the ethos and values of the charity and positively promote the work and activities of the charity at all times

Person Specification:

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office programs and database software
  • Educated to undergraduate degree level, or have equivalent relevant work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, to interpret funder needs, and understand, negotiate and set expectations with both colleagues and prospects
  • Great written language skills, with the ability to communicate the sense of mission, meaning, excitement and urgency that underpins our work as a Charity
  • Time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines, and under pressure, managing several projects at a time
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring applications fully meet the brief, incorporating all necessary elements, and are error free
  • A demonstrable grasp of general fundraising principals and best practice in fundraising from a variety of audiences (e.g Trusts, Major Donors, Companies)
  • A good understanding of diversity and access issues within the cultural industries or the state/higher education sector
  • Familiar with Institute of Fundraising codes of practice, UK tax law and data protection legislation
  • Minimum three years working in a target driven fundraising environment
  • Experience in creating high quality funding applications and propositions
  • Experience of high value donor stewardship and relationship fundraising
  • A track record of raising income for good causes
  • Experience of working with senior staff, trustees, or colleagues in managing fundraising relationships
  • Passionate and driven to make a positive impact on the world
  • Always learning: A self-starter, motivated, eager to learn and committed to your own development
  • A people person, inspirational and brilliant working closely with clients
  • Enthusiastic to work in a fast moving, small but very ambitious environment
  • Team oriented but takes individual responsibility

  • The discipline to work independently, and the enthusiasm for travelling in the UK
  • Happy to work flexibly to meet the Charity’s needs – which may mean working some weekends, or different hours, to meet a deadline, or communicate with a supporter in a different time zone
