- Contract Type
Unicef ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.
The Child Friendly Cities and Communities programme brings Unicef UK together with Local Government and other institutions to put children’s rights at the heart of communities and public services in the UK. The programme is part of Unicef’s global Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), and aims to create local systems and services that are child-centred, rights-based and responsive to the voices and experiences of children and young people.
As Programme Manager, you will play a leading role in continuing to develop and implement the Child Friendly Cities and Communities programme in the UK. This will include developing collaborative partnerships with new local authorities; supporting local authorities and their partners to develop child rights strategies, policies and action plans; devising and delivering child rights training for a range of professionals using a variety of methods and techniques; providing credible guidance and oversight during the implementation of programme projects and activities; and ensuring the programme is underpinned by a robust and developing evidence base.
As well as bringing substantial senior experience of working on social change within the public or charity sector, you will be a highly organised Programme Manager who understands, and is able to overcome, the challenges inherent in implementing an ambitious and complex programme. You are an excellent people manager, committed to the development and wellbeing of others for the good of the programme. You are also an excellent trainer/facilitator and able to both lead and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including children and young people.
If you are knowledgeable about the issues facing children in the UK, and you are keen to play an instrumental role in securing social justice for all of the UK’s children and young people, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of people, respecting and drawing on different perspectives, skills, experience and knowledge.
The successful candidate will be required to apply for a criminal records check. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of your offences.
We only accept online applications as this saves us money, making more funds available for us to help ensure children’s rights. CVs will not be accepted.
If you require support in completing the online form or an application form in an alternative format, please contact Supporter Care on 0300 330 5580 during office hours.
