Our client, The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, is one of the few integrated arts and heritage centres in the UK and use this position to create innovative programmes and exhibitions to inspire and engage over 120,000 visitors. The Centre encompasses an arts centre, theatre, cinema, museum, meeting place, café, bar and shop. This year they will manage over 1200 events in the building, hosting around 125,000 visitors. In addition the organisation has a vibrant outreach programme, which last year engaged 40,000 people in cultural activities. In April 2018 The Spring joined Arts Council England’s National Portfolio for the first time, demonstrating the organisation’s status as a key provider of arts and cultural services on the south coast.
The Charity is seeking a Chair to lead the Board through the next stage of growth and development. The Chair will provide collaborative leadership and direction to the Board, which enables it to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. In addition, you will provide support and advice to the Centre Director and build a positive partnership with the Chair of their trading subsidiary (HAA) that runs the café, bar and gift shop and reports to the charity board.
As Chair you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of effective strategic planning management
- A belief that arts and heritage activities enrich people’s lives and the places where they work and live
- Experience of chairing meetings
- Ideally, a track record of running small to medium enterprises
- Knowledge of charity compliance would be an advantage
