Chief Executive

National role based in Haywards Heath, Sussex

£100,000 to £120,000 per annum, subject to experience, plus an excellent benefits package

There are more than 8 million cats in the UK and their welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Cats Protection. A large and growing organisation with annual income of £65m, we are the UK’s leading feline welfare charity and have a vision of a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. We are constantly seeking new ways to deliver impact for cats and to be seen as the leading authority in the UK on issues relating to cats and their welfare.

It is an excellent time to be joining Cats Protection as our Chief Executive. 18 months ago, we undertook a review of our strategy which had been in place for a number of years and which, with your help, we hope to develop further. We have a strong and cohesive executive team and we have diversified our income streams, and our income continues to rise. We are seeking a values-driven Chief Executive who will lead and empower our people to deliver against our vision, drive us forward and enable us to focus on our key strategic objectives of homing, neutering and education, whilst increasing our national profile.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and you will recognise and value the importance of our volunteers, who last year donated a year’s worth of time every day. It goes without saying that you will love cats and care passionately about their welfare. However, you will also be an experienced and strategic leader with vision, entrepreneurial flair and strong commercial acumen.

This is a high profile role which will require exceptional communication skills, both for our immediate stakeholders and further afield. Educating, campaigning and lobbying is a central part of how we will change cats’ lives and you will be expected to be a visible leader and a voice for the organisation. You do not need to have worked in a charity before, although an understanding of charity governance is important.
