Spectroscopy in a Suitcase is a high-profile schools' engagement programme that provides teachers and their students with hands-on access to portable spectrometers during guided sessions delivered by university staff and students. 

Position: Programme Coordinator Spectroscopy in a Suitcase 
Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire 
Job Type: Full Time, Temporary 2 years Full Time Contract 
Hours: 35 hours per week 
Salary: £33,002 - £36,669 per annum plus benefits

About the role: 

Our client seeks a Programme Coordinator for their flagship Spectroscopy in a Suitcase (SIAS) programme. In this two-year contract role, you will be lead their SIAS programme, managing it for the RSC and for their network of providers, and integrating this programme into a strategically coherent set of resources and services for UK and Irish schools. 

Working as part of our client's Education and Schools Engagement team, you will be responsible for financial planning and budgeting, ensuring inclusive and balanced coverage across UK and Ireland, quality assurance and skills development, and reporting against targets. 

You can be home-based or based at their Science Park Cambridge office, but you will need to spend two to four days per month at their Cambridge office and travel regularly throughout the UK and Ireland (typically two days per week during term-time), with occasional weekend and non-core hour work required. 

About you: 

It is important in this role that You hold a degree level qualification in science (ideally chemistry), science communication or equivalent experience accompanied with a good working knowledge of secondary and tertiary education systems in the UK and Ireland, including the relevant curricula, education qualifications and career paths available. 

It is also essential that you have a knowledge of the principles of spectroscopy and analytical science with proven ability and experience of delivering teaching or training sessions. You will have successfully managed internal and external relationships, including having negotiated contracts and developed networks and new opportunities with tact and diplomacy. With your keen interest in science, you will be able to present complex technical data to different audiences. With your excellent IT skills, you will be able to learn new software tools and systems. You will have proven project, finance, budget and time management skills and experience of designing, testing and realising new activities in support of education and will ensure adherence to child and data protection policies and legislation. 

It would be highly beneficial if you have experience recruiting / managing volunteers and working directly with schools and science teachers. with knowledge of evaluation methods and impact assessment in the sector. Some knowledge of research, best practice and programmes to support widening participation, fair access, and aspirations in STEM careers would be advantageous.
