We are currently recruiting a temporary Support Assistant, for a London based homeless charity to work at their service in Islington. This Service provides hostel style accommodation to people who have become homeless and may have a range of complex and mental health needs. The service will help to support with the aim of moving them onto independent living.
As a Support Assistant, you will work alongside the Support Workers to provide a stable and secure environment. Your role is pivotal in breaking the cycle of homelessness by providing a service to empower and support people to achieve sustainable, long term recovery. In the role of Support Assistant you will be assisting Support workers who carry a case load of clients with assessing needs and formulating plans to address those needs. You will help clients to achieve the objectives set out in the support plans as well as ensuring that you are minimising risk to the clients by identifying, reporting and following up any safeguarding concerns. As a Support Assistant you will offer support in a variety of ways through planned intervention work, outing and activities as well as one to one and group work to build self-esteem and the skills to live independently.
To be a successful Support Assistant you will need to have experience either paid or voluntary of working with clients with similar needs within the homeless sector. You will be required to be literate in both IT and Numeracy, so you can complete paperwork as well as support clients with these basic skills.
To be considered you must be available to start immediately and have an enhanced DBS registered to the online update service. You will be expected to work both Early and Late shifts in this role so flexibility is essential, this is a full time position.
