Director - Campaigns & Policy (Environmental Charity)
Newark with frequent presence in London & travel across the UK
£57,487 pa

Our client believes that nature is valuable in its own right, that everyone should have the chance to experience the joy of wildlife and that we are part of nature - wholly dependent upon it.  They have a vision of land and seas rich in wildlife and people close to nature.

At this time of immense change, when the laws protecting our environment and wildlife are at risk and people are suffering more than ever from lack of access to nature, our client is looking for a Director to lead their public campaigns and policy work with energy, passion and real urgency. They need someone to help their movement empower the dedicated supporters and the next generation to lead nature’s recovery and reconnect us to wildlife and the environment.

You will need to have experience of developing and orchestrating mass face-to-face campaigns and be knowledgeable about at least one key broad aspect of our client’s work – the recovery of nature at a landscape scale and / or the wholesale restoration of their links with nature through education, learning, health and wellbeing programmes.

You will champion the Trusts’ views in England and oversee the development of policy in the fields of planning and housing; farming and forestry; soils; water and wetlands; nature and wellbeing.  You will work closely with others in the central team, not least the Director of Public Affairs and Living Seas, and with the wider movement and key partners.

You need to be highly strategic by nature; someone who easily sees the big picture, who can plan ahead and think on your feet.  You need to be confident about joining up different lines of thinking and policy and have the inner confidence to lead change. You will need to be selfless in pursuit of the Trust movement’s mission.

This Trusts is a grassroots movement of 800,000 members, 43,000 volunteers and 2,800 staff across the UK dedicated to our vision and driven by their beliefs.  There are 37 Trusts in England, five in Wales and Trusts for Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Alderney.  They have an unmatched presence on the ground helping to inspire millions of people about wildlife every year and managing nearly 100,000 hectares of land. Being part of this movement enables you to make a real difference and they look for people who share their values of courage, respect, integrity, trust and responsibility.

Our client is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

If you feel this is the role for you then we look forward to hearing from you.
