Our client is a national charity that’s been supporting people with learning disabilities since 1962. They put the people they support at the centre of everything they do and use their experience to work in partnership with them to provide personalised services to more than 2,500 people.
Position: Data Protection Manager
Location: Emersons Green, Bristol, or working from home (anywhere in the country within easy access to the Central Support Office in Bristol)
Contract type: Full time, Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week (with an expectation to work the hours necessary for the completion of the role)
Salary: £37,351 per annum plus a company vehicle or car allowance

About the Role:
This position requires an experienced and ambitious individual to advise on, and monitor, the implementation of GDPR and data protection (DP) across the organisation. This will involve providing sound commercial advice in relation to any acquisitions or mergers and ensure third party data processors provide for the compliance of DP law and indemnifying our client from any loss as a consequence of a breach by the third party.
You will ensure that their management, their Trustees and any third-party data processors are fully aware of their obligations under EU/UK Data Protection law and that the security of business processes and systems are in line with the same. You will be responsible for updating their policy and relevant procedures and respond to subject access requests (SAR) and reporting data breaches within the guidelines of the ICO.
The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and of the operations and requirements of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). You will also have experience of devising and implementing Data Management and Data Protection strategies.
Additionally, you will have experience of competently using a range of Microsoft Office applications as well as an ability and willingness to learn new systems. Experience of monitoring and maintaining records so that they are accurate and up to date is essential, as is experience of undertaking risk assessment.
You will either already have achieved a BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent or be willing to achieve this within 12 months from being appointed. There is an expectation to undertake national travel and accommodate regular overnight stays and you will therefore hold a full UK/EU driving licence.
