About the role
As we embark on an exciting period of growth at the Canal & River Trust, we are looking for an experienced professional fundraiser to develop and deliver a wide range of innovative programmes that maximise engagement with our supporters and the wider public. New business will be a key area of focus, as you develop on and offline campaigns that help us make powerful connections with new supporters. Other areas where you will make a significant contribution include fundraising events and telemarketing activities as well as our sector-leading face-to-face recruitment programme, which you will help to grow even further. The role involves managing a team of up to 7.
To succeed, you will need a proven track record of direct marketing, face-to-face fundraising and supporter acquisition. This should include periods when you have worked with budgets in excess of £1m and been responsible for fundraising strategies and direct marketing activities that have delivered significant growth. You must have experience of managing fundraising staff and of appointing and managing specialist agencies and suppliers. A thorough knowledge of charity law and fundraising best practice is also essential.
Strategic, creative and entrepreneurial, with outstanding communication and influencing skills, you will be able to create a hugely positive impact both inside and outside the Trust.
One of the UK’s biggest charities, we maintain 2,000 miles of historic canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings – preserving them for future generations. People who visit our canals and rivers tend to lead happier and healthier lives and we continue to use our waterways, towpaths, reservoirs and docks to transform places and enrich lives.
We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do.
