A great opportunity has arisen for a Media and Communications Officer for a children related charity in order to raise the profile of the charity, and to support its charitable aims such as: media relations, public awareness campaigns and social media.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Develop, implement and evaluate pro-active media campaigns across the UK.
Identify PR opportunities, from news to feature items, to relevant targeted sector specific media.
Research, write and pitch news releases, letters to the press, articles, media packs, exclusive stories to the media.
Assist in providing a reactive press office service, offering information and comment and analysis (including providing out-of-hours service one week per month).
Ensure that messages being conveyed through the media are also represented on the charity s website and social media channels.
As appropriate, arrange press briefings, media interviews, photo opportunities and other media-related events.
Maintain and develop the database of media case studies.
Evaluate the charity s media activity on a regular basis, including producing a monthly media report.
Use high quality social media content to communicate the organisation s news, opinions, marketing, fundraising and campaigns to members, stakeholders, decision makers and the wider public.
Monitor the charity s social media channels, responding and reacting to posts as appropriate.
Research and write articles for other charity s channels, such as monthly e-news and the website, as well as external publications.

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

Essential:
Good practical experience of working in a press office, either in house of for an agency
An understanding of how the media works at UK, national, regional, trade and consumer levels
Knowledge and experience of using digital communications and social media to communicate organisational messages to a range of stakeholders
Experience of writing for publications eg articles and reports.
Experience and understanding of writing for a digital audience.
Experience of writing for a wide variety of channels and audiences.
Desirable:
Experience of researching stories and ideas for articles.
Experience of editing articles and reports.
Experience of using media distribution software, such as Agility.
An understanding of issues affecting children in public care and of current issues in foster care.
An understanding of the way the media works at UK, national, regional, trade and consumer levels.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to communicate complex issues simply and effectively.
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to deal confidently with a range of people at all levels.
Good attention to detail.
Excellent planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise workload, deal with conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines.

Ability to work as part of a team.
