Principal Gifts Manager
Grade 7 £33,518 - £38,833 depending upon experience
The role is based in Aberystwyth University but applications will be welcomed from candidates proposing home working arrangements and regular travel to London, Cardiff and Aberystwyth, and travel to other UK and international locations, as agreed
Aberystwyth University is seeking a talented relationship builder for the role of Principal Gifts Manager, a key appointment for the Development & Alumni Relations Office (DARO). The Principal Gifts Manager will focus on building long-term, sustainable relationships with major donor prospects, and will secure transformational gifts for the University’s current and future fundraising priorities.
This newly created role completes a new structure established in 2017 following a strategic review and investment in fundraising. This was precipitated by the successful award of £10.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the transformation of Aberystwyth University’s iconic sea front Old College building.
The Principal Gifts Manager will report directly to the Director of Development & Alumni Relations, and will initially take the lead on plans to develop a long term and holistic major donor strategy and deliver priority income targets from major donations within a total capital appeal target of £6 million to achieve the transformation of Old College.
The postholder will join an ambitious team and will help to shape and drive an advancement vision for the University within a new five year strategy and as it approaches its 150th anniversary in 2022. It is anticipated that the Principal Gifts Manager will be working remotely and regularly out meeting donors and prospects. You will therefore be fully supported by a stable and effective team behind the scenes, which will be vital to your success.
There is nowhere quite like Aberystwyth: no other University offers the unique combination of long academic tradition, outstandingly beautiful location and a campus that brings together state-of-the-art facilities, an Arts Centre, and provides easy access to one of the six copyright libraries in Britain. Beneath the mountains and beside the sea, Aberystwyth is a centre of national and regional, as well as cultural and commercial, importance.
Aberystwyth University was named ‘University of the Year’ for Teaching Quality in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, which is the first time a university in Wales has been awarded this prestigious accolade.
The post-holder will work with major donors and prospects within the University’s 65,000 alumni community as well as with other supporters at national and international levels. This includes a range of internal and senior stakeholders across the University including the Vice- Chancellor, the Executive, Council, Honorary Fellows and the Old Students’ Association. Together with the Alumni Engagement and Individual Giving Manager, the role will line manage a shared Appeal Officer.
Aberystwyth University seeks a creative thinker with a strong sense of integrity and a values-driven approach to philanthropic fundraising. Your strong experience in working with high net-worth individuals will be instrumental in driving the future success of the development strategy, particularly in relation to identifying new opportunities from core audiences. The ideal candidate will have expertise in relationship management (particularly with high net-worth individuals), outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a passion for Higher Education, as well as a high level of motivation in meeting alumni and supporters to engage their support.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role within DARO, in the context of increased visibility within the University and a supportive and committed leadership team.
