Job Description and Person Specification:

Job Title:  Community Fundraiser                      

Reports To:  Team Leader/Director of Fundraising

Purpose of the role:  To contribute to the development and delivery of a cost effective community fundraising strategy.  This includes supporting the Volunteer Co-Ordinator in the management and training of volunteers and through partnerships with local groups, schools, associations and individuals.  Responsible for delivery of specific agreed fundraising projects and targets.  To represent and promote the work of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service locally, whilst promoting and supporting charity wide initiatives and campaigns. 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week or part-time, pro-rata (will include some weekend and out of hours working)   

Salary: £22,000 - £24,000 per annum depending on experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maximise net voluntary income opportunities through community fundraising activities in Berkshire and the surrounding areas
  • Support and develop local fundraising initiatives ensuring any fundraising events are planned, marketed and executed within the planned expenditure and income budget
  • Work in partnership with other team members to promote events and activities initiated centrally
  • Support budgeting and planning.
  • Work within a fast moving environment and identify and respond to changing priorities.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a community fundraising strategy and develop a plan to ensure its achievement.
  • To work as part of a team to help achieve Alexander Devine’s short term and long term financial and non-financial objectives.
  • To assist the Volunteer Co-Ordinator in the development of community volunteers and to help maintain high standards in communicating and training of volunteers.  Maintain an on-going relationship with the volunteers to nurture their continued support and assistance. 
  • Manage own workload in a cost effective and proactive way
  • To help in the collation of information for the fundraising report to the Trustees
  • Work under own initiative to respond to local fundraising opportunities, referring to line manager as appropriate
  • To assist in all communications including press releases, PR and all social mediums.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately

Person Specification


  • Institute of Fundraisers Certificate or equivalent
  • Previous experience in fundraising.


  • Excellent person skills and a genuine interest in people.
  • English Language and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent grade C or above
  • A commitment to our charity and ensuring that all that come into contact with us have a positive experience
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal / communication skills
  • Excellent skills in organising and event planning
  • Ability to take initiative and work without regular prompting
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and to be flexible in a fast pace and unpredictable environment
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to produce written reports and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable proficiency in intermediate IT skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Experience of using Face book, twitter and other social mediums.
  • An ability to believe and share in Alexander Devine ethos and values
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when required
  • Full driving licence and use of own vehicle
  • Contribute positively to good teamwork and uphold the charity’s culture and values
  • Act as an ambassador for Alexander Devine and attend and support fundraising events as and when required
