We are the RNLI. For almost 200 years we’ve been dedicated to drowning prevention. Around the UK and Ireland we are as committed as ever to saving lives at sea, and now we’re taking action to tackle drowning internationally.

The World Health Organisation has described drowning as a silent epidemic. The global drowning death toll adds up to almost 400,000 lives lost every year – equivalent to two thirds that of malnutrition, and half that of malaria. In many countries, particularly across the Western Pacific, South East Asia and Africa, it is a leading cause of child mortality.

Now an exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Senior Programmes Manager to join our team, leading the RNLI’s ambitious plans to dramatically reduce drowning through ground breaking and innovative solutions.

Leading a small team, you will identify, design and deliver a range of lifesaving solutions suitable for low resource environments. You will work with project partners to deliver projects which effectively reduce drowning in high-risk communities.

Projects range from building local capacity for flood rescue in Bangladesh, to aquatic survival education in Ghana, all undertaken with one thing in mind: to save lives by empowering communities to prevent drowning. You will manage the RNLI’s international intervention delivery strategy and work closely with our fundraising and research teams to expand the programmes reach in the long term.

The Senior International Programmes Manager will be based at the RNLI’s head office in Poole, but will involve regular travel overseas (particularly Asia and Africa).

Closing date: Tuesday, 2 January 2018.

Interview date: Friday, 26 January 2018.
