This role will play a key role in shaping England’s new independent regulator for our world-leading higher education sector, helping to deliver the OfS’s mission of ensuring that every student, whatever their background, has a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers.

The OfS is the newly formed public body, established in law by the Higher Education and Research Act in 2017.  The OfS will be the regulator for the Higher Education sector putting the student interest at its heart.  Replacing the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the Office for Fair Access, the newly formed body will be fully operational by April 2018.

The post-holder will be a strong leader, able to scope and deliver the change needed to successfully establish a new Legal Services team and provide authoritative legal advice on OfS’s regulatory and business processes.  They will be the principal adviser to the OfS on all legal matters and the advice they provide will underpin decision making at every level.

The Head of Legal Services will provide strategic support to the OfS board, the chief executive and staff, helping to set corporate priorities, legal strategies and objectives, and supporting all regulatory decisions.  They will be required to create and recruit a new legal team, as well as commission external legal advice as appropriate. This role offers a rare opportunity to deliver tangible results for a new high-profile regulator.

As a qualified solicitor or barrister, you will be an individual who has credible legal and advisory experience but one who brings the required leadership and management experience to build a team and work corporately to deliver the OfS strategy and objectives, as a senior member of the OfS team.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who wish to be part of something new and help shape not only a new and influential body but a sector that is of significant importance to the UK.
