Over the past ten years, Independent Age has been through a major transformation. We’ve moved from operating as a benevolent trust, to establishing ourselves as a charity that provides impact at scale for older people. We’ve successfully re-engineered our core service offering, developed our profile in thought leadership, and begun to build an evidence base through policy, research and media. We are already punching above our weight and are incredibly proud of the successes we have achieved so far. Last year, 1 million people accessed our services.

Our plan is to significantly accelerate the number of people who get and give support through Independent Age. However, the opportunity doesn’t just lie in increasing volume, but in developing ways to build meaningful engagement with our key audiences. In order to seize this opportunity and help us turn this vision into a reality, we’ve taken the bold step of building a brand new Engagement Division, bringing together the key functions which drive the public to Independent Age – Marketing, Communications and Fundraising.

We are now seeking a brand new Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications to help lead the building of the division in an organisation undergoing tremendous growth and with the resources to truly unlock its potential. Working closely with the new Assistant Director of Fundraising and new Heads of department across our new Engagement Division, this role offers the chance to be part of a brand new, high-calibre management team responsible for shaping and driving the organisation.

You will be a brand and marketing expert who has worked at a senior level with considerable experience of strategic leadership and driving transformational change. With a proven track record in developing insight-led integrated customer relationship and marketing strategies, you will instinctively understand the power of compelling content and will have the drive to shape strategies and lead teams to emotionally engage people to take action. Whilst you will build on our successes in growing our profile through our media and policy work, you will know what it takes to capitalise on our wider opportunity to significantly grow our public profile. A dynamic and self-assured ambassador, it goes without saying that you will possess exceptional communication and influencing skills.

If you are inspired by this unique and rare opportunity to create and shape a brand new marketing and communications department to raise awareness, build understanding, develop brand, drive action and grow income, in a growth organisation driven to deliver increased impact with older people, then we would love to hear from you.
