Main Purpose of the Role

The Executive Director of Fundraising and Engagement will lead our fundraising, marketing, retail, catering and engagement activities. You will be responsible for developing engagement and fundraising strategies to raise awareness of the charity’s work and support its future by way of improving fundraising activities and sustainability, translating this in to operational objectives and ensuring effective operational delivery.

Responsible to: The Chief Executive Officer & Board of Trustees

Responsible for: Marketing & fundraising, supporter relations, catering and retail departments


Ø  Contribute to the setting of the strategic direction of the charity with consideration given to funding opportunities and timely delivery of the 5-year strategy

Ø  Be a fully contributing member of the Executive Management team keeping the CEO fully informed

Ø  Keep appraised of any key developments within the charity sector and utilise all opportunities to the charity’s full advantage

Ø  Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within the charity, the equine welfare sector and other charity contacts

Ø  Develop and maintain an effective relationship with the Board and ensuring appropriate governance

Ø  Monitor and report upon the effectiveness of operations in order to evaluate success and adapt approach as needed to maximise opportunities

Ø  Establish timely reviews of current operating performance giving consideration to efficient, effective practices and value for money

Ø  Collaborate across departments to achieve shared organisational goals

Ø  Oversee management of all departmental project work and contribute to charity wide projects



Ø  Line management duties of marketing and fundraising manager, supporter relations manager and catering manager

Ø  Work with the management team to develop a team whereby the values of the charity are embedded in to daily performance

Ø  Undertake people management in the functional areas and ensure succession planning supporting risk management and contingency planning

Ø  Delegate operational tasks appropriately

Ø  Closely oversee the performance management of the team maximising development opportunities

Ø  Ensure that policies and procedures are an integral part of the daily routine

Ø  Be an inspirational leader encouraging a motivated workforce and engagement with the Bransby Horses commitments

Ø  Be a key decision maker

Ø  Ensure your Team is trained, developed and have the necessary tools to succeed in their job responsibilities. This includes providing employees with ongoing feedback, coaching, and training to support their activities long term

Ø  Set clear expectations, providing ongoing coaching and holding team members accountable for them



Ø  Have a deputising role in the functional areas in the CEO’s absence or as directed by the CEO

Ø  Full CEO deputising role on a rota basis with other members of the EMT



Ø  Responsible for delivery in functional/operational areas directly reporting to the post

Ø  Ensure the charity’s quality framework is closely followed with high standards of service of the function

Ø  Ensure compliance with legislation

Ø  Undertake quality assurance audits developing processes, monitoring and reporting



Ø  Actively contribute to financial planning ensuring department budgets are effectively managed and adhered to
