An exciting role working for a leading professional body and trade union. 

Our client is a leading non-for-profit, professional body and trade union, and is the largest organisation of nutrition professionals in the UK; representing the nutrition and dietetic workforce across all sectors. With over 9000 members, increasing member engagement and advocacy is a crucial growth area for them, and the effective management of their vital volunteer networks play a key role in enabling them to do so. 

Position: Business Development Officer 
Location: Birmingham, West Midlands with some UK travel 
Job type: Initially 1 year fixed term contract, with extension on successful performance 
Hours: 36 hours per week (flexible working, job share and part-time may be considered) 
Salary: £32,770 - £36,129 per annum

About the role: 

Our client is a professional body and trade union and is the leading organisation of nutrition professionals in the UK; representing the nutrition and dietetic workforce across all sectors. They are seeking an experienced Business Support Officer. 

Following the very sad closure of the Children’s Food Trust, they have taken over responsibility for the highly successful Let’s Get Cooking programme and associated Learning Network. 

This exciting newly created Business Development role will lead on Let’s Get Cooking and the Learning Network, initially supporting the transition from the Children’s Food Trust by building capacity and resources to ensure the continuing delivery of the programmes. The key role is to build on the legacy of the CFT through driving the maintenance and growth of the Let’s Get Cooking and Learning Network brands by developing and managing relationships with key corporate, not for profit and trade association partners to support the delivery of the brands along with innovating and generating ideas for the development of new business via programmes and projects. 

About You: 

The successful candidate will have a degree level education or relevant transferable knowledge and knowledge of key stakeholder communication strategies. You will have a strategic understanding of partnerships and the link to business development and knowledge of financial management and budgets. The ability to identify key issues and opportunities, to translate them into policy or partnership opportunities is also essential. 

Additionally you will have excellent communication skills, a good negotiator with excellent presentation skills and be confident in dealing with commercial partners and sponsors. You will have excellent report writing/copywriting skills as well as good IT skills. You will have project management skills and the ability to see a project from concept to completion. Experience of working with commercial partners or within a partnership role is essential, as is experience of managing complex budgets. You will also have experience of producing marketing materials (e.g. promotional packs). 

A degree in a business or marketing discipline would be an advantage, as would a human nutrition qualification and knowledge of current health, food and nutrition topics. It is also desirable if you have training or teaching skills or experience and experience of the development of online training content or designing webpages, web tools, etc. Previous experience in a professional association, charity or not-for-profit sector would also be beneficial.
