Summary

Legacies generate £60m of critical income for the Trust each year, money which is vital to help us protect our special places for ever, for everyone but our ambitions don’t stop there. We want to increase that to £100m per year by continuing to build a pipeline of future gifts.

We are looking for a Head of Legacy Administration to lead our Legacy Administration team, with responsibility for the delivery of the income donated to the National Trust in our supporters’ wills.

What it's like to work here

We provide the best possible working environment for you throughout the building whilst also promoting and fostering a sociable Heelis Community. Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career.

Heelis is the Central Office for the National Trust; it was named after one of the Trust’s biggest benefactors Mrs William Heelis. There are approximately 700 staff from across the Trust’s directorates, including the Executive team and the Director General, are based here.

Heelis was designed to be highly sustainable and has won a number of nationally recognised awards. Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects in 2005, this architectural gem uses timber from our woodlands and wool from Herdwick sheep grazed on Trust farmlands, to help make Heelis a unique working environment.

What you'll be doing

This is a role that impacts the largest fundraised income stream for the National Trust. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategic plan for optimising legacy income to meet our ambition of generating £100m pa through Gifts in Wills. You will ensure excellent communication with executors and the families of our legators and grow the reputation of the Trust for efficient and sensitive legacy administration.

In order to achieve this you will need to fully understand the importance of implementing the right systems and processes to meet compliance requirements. You will ensure the team delivers best practise at all times and have the confidence to demonstrate your decision making processes to internal stakeholders to guarantee fund management.

Who we're looking for

You will have significant experience of probate and legacy administration. You will be comfortable working under pressure and have detailed knowledge of property law and experience of mediation and contentious legacy issues.
