Chief Executive (Conservation)
Truro, Cornwall
£60,000

Our client is the leading local wildlife charity working to protect Cornwall's wildlife and wild places on land and in our seas. Passionate about conservation, their broad range of activities includes: establishing and managing nature reserves; advising landowners, authorities and industries; recording and monitoring; campaigning and educating; and inspiring people to engage with the natural environment.

The Chief Executive provides strategic vision, leadership and management to the operation of the Trust and their trading subsidiary (an environmental consultancy). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has enthusiasm for the natural world, conservation and environmental issues.

You will be responsible for the smooth running of day-to-day operations in line with charitable objectives and Trustee Schemes of Delegation. This will include strategic planning and delivery, financial planning and budgeting, fundraising and staff management. Working closely with the Council of Trustees, you will act as a lead adviser and ensure we receive advice, recommendations and information in an effective and timely manner.

You will ensure good working relationships internally, between staff, trustees and volunteers, and externally with key partners. Knowledge of working with volunteers, demonstrating best practice in this area and understanding their motivations will be essential.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader and role model for Trust staff, volunteers and members. You will show good judgement, lead people by example, delegate effectively and develop all staff to their full potential. You will also be a proactive ambassador, advocate and profile raiser for the Trust, and a champion for Cornwall’s wildlife.

You should have experience at a senior level along with commercial awareness and a good understanding of the not-for-profit sector. Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will be confident in taking responsibility for financial/budgetary planning and will be a strong negotiator capable of presenting to various audiences.

If you are creative, highly self-motivated, results-driven and able to prioritise the conflicting demands of a range of stakeholders, we would love to hear from you!
