Admissions & Conference Manager
Our client, a leading health charity based in Sutton who are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best candidates are looking to recruit for an Admissions & Conference Manager to join them in their mission. The Admissions & Conference Manager is a highly visible role within the organisation, responsible for the recruitment of their research degree students, and the organisation of the annual scientific conference. It requires project management, attention to detail, the planning of complex events, and clear, tactful communication.
This role would suit applicants with existing experience of working in higher education administration, but may also be of interest to postdoctoral scientists now wishing to pursue a broader role in a university environment. Alternatively, applicants might come from a background in event management or similar, with a demonstrably analytical approach to their work. Part of the role involves working with academic staff to run the recruitment process, which is designed to select only the very highest calibre of students. The role requires a minimum of an undergraduate degree, proven experience of managing complex deadline-driven projects, and the confidence and ability to inspire trust in both applicants and staff. Work relating to student admissions happens throughout the year, but is focused in the annual recruitment event in January/February.
The post-holder is also responsible for the planning and organising of the whole scientific conference, which takes place off-site every summer. This event brings together scientists from across the research divisions, allowing the sharing of knowledge that epitomises their approach to inter-disciplinary discovery. In order to be an effective conference manager, the post-holder should have some experience of organising events, have an excellent standard of written and spoken business English, and be demonstrably self-motivated.
