The board of trustees of Women and Children First (UK) is seeking an exceptional candidate to succeed its current Chief Executive. The new Chief Executive will lead the charity at an exciting time of growth and development.

Over the past fifteen years WCF has matured from a project-driven NGO to a globally respected international development organization dedicated to preventing mothers and babies from dying during pregnancy, childbirth or in the first few days and months of life. Of the more than 130 million births that take place worldwide each year, an estimated 303,000 result in the mother’s death, 2.6 million in a stillbirth and 2.7 million in a newborn death. The majority of these occur in poor communities in developing countries.

Women and Children First has been working for 15 years to achieve an equitable world where all women, children and adolescents have good health, and mothers and newborn babies no longer die from conditions that are treatable or preventable. We work in partnership with NGOs, academics institutions, professional associations and Ministries of Health in the world’s poorest communities in Asia, Africa and Central America to achieve community mobilization through women’s groups. We have a strong evidence base to prove that our work reduces a woman’s chance of dying due to pregnancy or childbirth by about a half and a newborn baby dying by a third. The WCF women’s group approach is endorsed by the World Health Organisation.

The ideal candidate will be an inspirational leader and team player with relevant experience in international development, including at least five years at a senior management level. Candidates should bring a strong track record in fundraising, be an experience and persuasive communicator and able to demonstrate empathy with our purpose and our beneficiary communities. The current Chief Executive will retire at the end of 2017.

This is a permanent, full time executive role and attracts an annual salary of c.65,000.
