Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia. 

Position: Research Communications Officer 
Location: Flexible - to be agreed (requirement to be in London office 1-2 days per week) 
Contract type: Permanent 
Hours: 35 per week 
Salary: £27,782 - £32,326 per annum (actual), depending on location

About the role: 

The Research Communications Officer will publicise our portfolio of over 150 grants worth £30 million to a wide range of lay audiences. Working within the busy research team, you will use your understanding of biomedical science and excellent writing skills to create and promote compelling content for our publications, website, blog and social media channels and for use by our fundraising and marketing directorates. You will have editorial responsibility for our quarterly research magazine Care and Cure aimed at people affected by dementia and their families. 

Dementia remains a very popular topic in the press. You will play a key role in supporting the Society’s research media work by developing press statements for national circulation and articles for trade press. With media training you will act as a spokesperson on research topics in print and broadcast interviews. 

About you: 

We’re looking for someone uniquely skilled in making complex science accessible to lay audiences. You will be able to tell a compelling story but also have good attention to detail to ensure accuracy in our press statements. You must have experience in communicating research to non-scientists, be confident at giving presentations and have the ability to work proactively and independently in this very varied role.
