Head of Service (Healthcare) 

A fantastic Head of Service position with a leading UK charity. 

Our client is a registered charity and not part of the NHS. They rely on support from the community they serve, both through volunteering time and donating money, to enable them to continue their existing services. It costs over £7 million to run every year – the majority of which comes from voluntary contributions from the general public. In addition, there are over 1000 volunteers giving their time, helping in every Service and Department. 

Position: Head of Service 
Location: Pembury, Kent 
Contract type: Fixed term contract 2 years 
Hours: Full Time (part time considered) 
Salary: circa £50,000 (FTE) per annum

About the Role: 

The Cottage Hospice is the first of its kind in the UK and with their University Research Partners from the International Observatory in End of Life Care, they are intent on making sure of its success. 
The new purpose-built Cottage Hospice is expected to open its doors in December 2018 to patients in their last weeks of life and those family caregivers who accompany them. The notion of family caregivers is central to our client's plans. The Head of Cottage Hospice will need to fully understand and deliver the philosophy and practice of this dynamic approach, working closely with the CEO, programme lead and the Care Director. 

The Head of Service will lead and manage all operational aspects of the UK’s first Cottage Hospice to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality end of life caring activities in line with the client's strategic aims. 

About You: 

This critically important post requires a strong and professional senior manager with a health or social care background who can drive forward change and inspire others. Excellent leadership, communication and networking skills are essential. 

Additionally a relevant teaching/supervision/mentoring qualification is essential as is an appropriate clinical practice qualification (can be from a wide range of clinical settings). You will also have experience of managing projects from start up to completion. Sound working knowledge of computer/information systems, within the NHS or voluntary sector is also essential. 

It would be beneficial if you have a post registration qualification at Diploma/Degree level in oncology or specialist palliative care, a project management qualification or are a registered nurse. Experience of managing a team within a changing environment would also be an advantage.
