Dementia Support Manager

A life-changing opportunity

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Dementia Support Manager
Location: Mile End, London (role covers Tower Hamlets)
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £25,923.00 actual per annum

Closing date: 21 September 2017
Interview date: To be confirmed

About the role:

Alzheimer’s Society Tower Hamlets is co-located with the Memory Services Teams of East London NHS Foundation Trust. We also work closely with Tower Hamlets CCG and London Borough of Tower Hamlets, providing services for people affected by dementia from pre-diagnosis, providing advice and support throughout our client’s journey with dementia. Providing services specifically for carers forms an integral part of our work.

The Dementia Support Manager role involves managing a team of skilled and experienced Dementia Support Workers and Volunteers. This includes recruitment, development and management of a team of 7 staff operating within the service areas. You will support them in their demanding roles, whilst ensuring we offer an excellent service, meeting contract requirements set by our funders. The role includes some travel around the borough, and as with most city areas, this will be by public transport.

Alzheimer’s Society launched a bold new strategy ‘Delivering on Dementia’, earlier this year. We will ensure that every person affected by dementia who wants our support, receives our support. As Dementia Support Manager you will have the opportunity to influence the way people affected by dementia are supported and to improve their quality of life.

About you:

This is an exciting time to work in Tower Hamlets, which is one of the most vibrant and diverse areas of London. You will be innovative and relish the challenges of working collaboratively to deliver services in an inner city borough. So, if you are a good communicator and are looking for a career where you can use your organising and time management skills, you have an understanding of dementia and have experience of managing staff and leading a team, we would like to hear from you.

Diversity is an essential part of who we are. Because dementia can affect anyone, our workforce must be ready to face the challenges this brings across all communities. We have a high population of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Groups (BAME) in the service area so we would especially welcome applications from people who are active in these communities.

Alzheimer’s Society is committed to equal opportunities.

You may have experience of the following: Support Manager, Social Care, Dementia, Charity, Charities, Third Sector, Social Worker, Team Leader, Community Care, Supervisor, Not for Profit, Healthcare Assistant, Care Worker, Vulnerable People, Voluntary Sector, Care Assistant, Support Worker etc.
