Head of and Communications and Media

London SE1

Our vision is for a world with good mental health for all. Our mission is to help people understand, protect and sustain their mental health.

The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health. With prevention at the heart of what we do, we aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Foundation. Mental health is rising up the public policy agenda, with greater public awareness of the impact of mental health problems on individuals, their families and society more widely.

The Head of Communications and Media will play a central role in not only building one of the leading mental health brands in the UK but also in transforming public attitudes and understanding of how to effectively prevent and manage mental health problems.

Right now we are to looking to recruit a talented senior marketing and communications professional to help increase the profile of the Foundation by amplifying its voice through the media, digital communications (digital and social media) and the marketing of our resources. Notably this role includes responsibility for delivering Mental Health Awareness Week in May each year which has built huge reach since we launched it in 2000.

A significant amount of your time will be spent connecting the ground-breaking work that Foundation is doing with a range of public audiences as well as developing productive relationships with leading influencers from national charities and campaigns, government bodies, royal colleges and universities, as well as key figures in the media.  Working with the department director, chief executive and colleagues across the UK, your remit will be to maximise the opportunities to enhance an engaged public conversation on mental health.

To be considered, you will have extensive knowledge of simplifying complex messages for public audiences and of the UK media, combined with previous experience of managing high performing teams.  An exceptional communicator, with excellent writing ability, you have a a broad understanding of mental health issues and government strategies relevant to mental health and related issues. Excellent project planning, organisational and analysis skills are essential, including expertise in resource and budget management, project planning and commissioning.
