Saferworld is a UK based, non-governmental organisation, which works internationally to prevent violent conflict and enable long-term recovery and stability. Our priority is people – we believe that everyone should be able to lead peaceful, fulfilling lives, free from insecurity and violent conflict.
We work with local people affected by conflict to improve their safety and sense of security. We also work collaboratively with governments, international/regional organisations and civil society to encourage and support effective policies and practice through advocacy, research and policy development, and through supporting the actions of others.
The organisation has estimated income in 2016-17 of £16 million and is funded by some 40 donors from governments, the EC and other bodies. Our Head Office is in London and we have programmes in countries and territories across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

We are seeking an experienced Treasurer to join on our Board of Trustees. This is an opportunity to be part of an organisation which has established itself as a leader in its field of activity and influence over the last 20 years, working with highly talented people who are passionate about making a difference in the fields in which they work.
The Treasurer will require the following:
- Experience of working in a senior financial position, with proven financial skills.
- Experience and understanding of charity accounts, management and financial information.
- Experience of working constructively with an Executive Director (or equivalent), other members of an executive team and colleagues on a Board.
- Experience of supporting Board members through periods of change.
- Incisive and insightful thinker able to contribute to the organisation’s strategic and creative thinking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Personal integrity and commitment.
Terms and Conditions:
Time Commitment: To fulfil the role effectively, it is expected that the time requirement for the Treasurer will be about 10 part days per year comprised of four Board meetings plus preparation time, regular contact with the Executive Director and Director of Finance. Trustees are asked to commit to a minimum of 3 years.
It is planned that the Treasurer would be in post by December 2017, replacing our current Treasurer who is retiring.
Payment: This is an unpaid voluntary position. All agreed and directly incurred expenses while fulfilling the role of Trustee will be reimbursed against receipts.
