Chair of Trustees
Shaftesbury Young People is one of the UK's oldest established children's charities. We are an education and social mobility charity, that helps, guides and assists the most vulnerable, disadvantaged and excluded children and young people. The charity is entering an exciting time in its history, as it seeks to remodel its services to the modern challenges that all young people face. Information is contained on our website:
Our Chair is stepping down after seeing the organisation through a number of changes and we are looking to find a new Chair to take us forward, working with the CEO, Board and staff, to develop the services we offer so that they become more self-sustaining and continue to meet the needs of the young people we work with.
The post will require attendance at Board meetings in the London area approximately every 6 weeks as well as other meetings across the year when deemed necessary.
Our ideal Chair
The SYP Chair will be someone who is warm-hearted, well organised and able to achieve respect, possessing the gravitas and determination needed to bring together the new board and drive the strategy forward. She/He should be someone who understands the principles of business but can appropriately use them in a Charity context. He/she will ideally have experience of developing strategy and changing a business or charity, perhaps a former CEO or business leader who now has the time to devote to an exciting new challenge.
A background working within children’s services/outdoor adventurous activities business/ industry may be advantageous to the role, however, not a prerequisite.
