Basic Function: The chief financial officer position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the charity, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve charity assets and report accurate financial results.  Reports daily to the financial trustee (Yitzchak Sufrin)

Principal accountabilities are:

  • Production of financial Information
  • Ensure timely financial reporting process
  • Construct audit file
  • Personally review and approve all government compliance reports
  • Report financial results to the trustees
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information


  • Assist in formulating the charity's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Develop financial strategies
  • Introduce divisional and branch budgeting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the charity's strategic direction


  • Oversee the charity's transaction processing systems
  • Manage the accounting and human resources departments.
  • Liaise with donor relations and financial trustees to ensure proper treasuary
  • Integrate the financial operations of allied schools and branches
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced
  • Implement operational best practices
  • Oversee employee benefit plans
  • Supervise due diligence

Risk Management

  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the charity's risk profile
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the charity, and legal issues affecting the industry
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and data backup routines


  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Arrange financing in conjunction with Donor Relations Management
  • Invest funds

Third Parties

  • Participate in conference calls with the donor community
  • Maintain banking relationships
  • Represent the charity


  • Educate branches in financial aspects
  • Recommend development opportunities including new revenue streams from investment returns

Desired Qualifications: The candidate chief financial officer should have a degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major charity or division of a large corporation.  Should have experience in partnering with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance, Chartered Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.

Additional Qualifications: The charity operates in an industry that requires specialized accounting knowledge, industry experience requirement of at least two years.

Working Conditions: Will work in an office environment. Annual leave must include chagim. Work around early/late Shabbat
