Contract type: Full Time, Temporary Maternity Cover
Salary: £49,777 - £55,308 per annum plus excellent benefits

About the Role: Our client is looking for an engaging and successful Publisher with management experience to lead their books team and oversee the day to day running of the department. They have been publishing books since 1968 and have over 1,700 titles in their list, with 1,500 available as eBooks.
Reporting to their Publisher, Books & Journals, you will be responsible for the setting and delivery of ambitious commissioning and publishing targets, and financial management of the associated costs. This role will involve influencing and liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels and across all departments.
The ideal candidate will have a physical or life science degree, ideally in chemistry, with significant STM publishing experience and business awareness of developments in STM publishing. With your sound knowledge of budgets, management accounts, and cost management, you will be able to apply this knowledge to books budgets and new business developments.
You will have a high degree of staff management skill and must apply this to recruitment, training, supervision, motivation and development of staff. Managerial experience of teams handling commissioning activities is desirable but not essential.
Additionally, you will have broad knowledge of developments in electronic publishing and must be able to recommend the implementation of any changes necessary where external factors may impact on the RSC’s publishing operation. You will have a broad knowledge of all aspects of commissioning activities, editorial policy, procedures and production processes.
You will also have an understanding of the working of committees, especially Editorial Boards, and effective meeting management. Strong knowledge (or the ability to develop this knowledge) of wider, RSC strategic projects and priorities is also essential.
