Head of Development
Head of Development
Royal Drawing School
The Royal Drawing School is looking for a new Head of Development. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work for a world-class teaching institution, recognised by its peers as a leader in the field of observational drawing.
The School aims to address the permanent need for high-quality drawing teaching, in filling the gap left by the steady erosion of observational drawing from the study of art in higher education and schools. All of the School’s courses are fully or partially subsidised, with a wide range of scholarships, bursaries and concessions making them accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstance.
The Artistic and Executive Directors are very committed to the fundraising process, and would welcome an individual into this donor-centric and collaborative environment, who will thrive in a fundraising department with significant potential for growth. There is a drive for success in the air, and this extends to donors, who are loyal and committed to the cause. These donor relationships have to be nurtured and developed by the Head of Development, the School’s trustees, directors and fundraising associates.
Fundraising at the School is a team effort at every level, and the strategic focus is on who is the best person to develop a particular donor relationship. The Head of Development will facilitate these relationships, and develop their own. The opportunities and potential for giving are extraordinary, and the Head of Development will capitalise on past, present and future prospects and donors, to develop new strands of funding. This is an opportunity for someone to hone their major-gift fundraising skills, and to work closely with donors at the very highest net-worth level. The School’s networks of philanthropic relationships in the UK and abroad are truly exceptional.
The Head of Development will need to be a hands-on fundraiser who is approachable and confident in engaging with prospective and current donors in face-to-face fundraising. (S)he will have demonstrable success in securing six-to- seven figure gifts, have highly developed interpersonal skills, and have the ability and willingness to work collaboratively. Knowledge and/or experience of working within the visual arts is essential.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated and entrepreneurial individual, with a track record of success, to work at the very highest levels and to make a lasting impact on the Royal Drawing School’s future. Success in the role will be career-defining.
