Interim Business Change Director
Working families – Interim Business Change Director
Location: Cambridge House Office, London SE5
Salary: up to £50,000 pro rata - Happy to discuss flexible working arrangements
We have a problem in the UK - the way we work is bad for us. For many parents, paid work still means raising children in poverty – more than half of all children living in poverty have at least one parent who is working; and many patch together a barely adequate income from several different low paid jobs – families who remain cash poor and who are achingly time poor all the same. Many others – especially among our supporters - feel cash rich but very time poor; extreme jobs may be stimulating and bring many rewards, but unrelenting demands may not be sustainable. Time is the undervalued currency of family life, which creates space for nurturing relationships and good mental and physical health. And time is an equally valuable commodity at work, enabling better thinking, better decision making, better professional relationships – better business.
This is what Working Families tackles every day – the damage which getting work and life outside work out of balance causes to us all. Righting the balance is not a soft option, but a necessity. So we provide immediate help for individual parents and carers via our free legal employment rights service; and work for more systemic change in partnership with our employer members and via our well-respected and successful campaign and policy programmes.
We are a highly motivated team of 25 staff and nine Trustees, who share a vision of work which works - for people, for families and for the economy, so that families thrive and business prospers. Together we have embarked on a challenging internal programme - More Effective Working Families - to make sure that, first of all, work works for us: that we are an exemplar in all aspects of our own employment practice; to increase our impact and visibility externally; and to review how we raise our income and how we spend it, in order to create a sustainable future for the charity.
We are looking for someone to help us, challenge us, where necessary to reshape and refocus us.
If you feel you have the skills, experience, drive and enthusiasm to join and lead this dynamic and successful charity we would like to hear from you as soon as possible.
