At the National Trust, we have worked to protect places of Historic Interest and Natural Beauty for over 120 years. We look after a quarter of a million hectares of land and countryside, 775 miles of coastline, and thousands of archaeological monuments and historic buildings – and that’s an expensive task. We are incredibly grateful for the support our 4.2 million members but, as membership only covers a third of our costs, we also rely on donations and legacies to enable our vital conservation work.

What it's like to work here

Heelis is the Central Office for the National Trust; it was named after one of the Trust’s biggest benefactors Mrs William Heelis, There are approximately 500 staff from across the Trust’s directorates, including the Executive team and the Director General, are based here. Heelis was designed to be highly sustainable and has won a number of nationally recognised awards. Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects in 2005, this architectural gem uses timber from our woodlands and wool from Herdwick sheep grazed on Trust farmlands, to help make Heelis a unique working environment.

What you'll be doing

We are looking for a Fundraising Operations and Compliance Manager to ensure our fundraising activity operates smoothly and compliantly. You’ll work closely with our central, regional and property-based fundraisers, of course, but you’ll also liaise across the organisation, working with in-house teams ranging from Legal to Finance, through to Information Security and our Supporter Services Centre.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that supporters’ interests are right at the heart of our fundraising systems, processes and procedures. You’ll be familiar with both the current and evolving regulatory landscape and will ensure that, as fundraisers, we’re meeting the relevant data protection, recording and reporting requirements. Working with the Head of Fundraising Operations and Resource, you’ll implement approaches which will ensure we are GDPR compliant; oversee an efficient end-to-end donations process; and identify ways in which we can better integrate our fundraising database into wider Trust systems.

Working within the recently formed Fundraising Operations and Resource team, which provides research, database and campaign resource to support the Trust’s wider fundraising efforts, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to help shape this newly-created role.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be knowledgeable about relevant fundraising and data protection legislation, and able to identify implications of new regulations and requirements and devise practical approaches to respond to these. You’ll also have a good working knowledge of one or more supporter database systems, and a solutions-focused approach to ensuring better join up between systems in a complex operational context. Just as importantly, you’ll be meticulous and methodical in your approach, but able to demonstrate flexibility and innovation in the context of a shifting landscape. In summary, we’re looking for someone who sees the big picture, and who has the both the passion for process and eye for detail that we need to deliver it!
