FPP is looking to hire a project officer to be based in Bertoua, Cameroon, who will work with our local partner Okani, other local indigenous peoples’ associations, as well as directly with the indigenous and local communities with whom FPP and Okani are working.
They will be part of FPP’s Environmental Governance Programme on the Territorial Governance sub programme which focuses on facilitating local community governance through a range of mechanisms, including territorial mapping, participatory land tenure assessments, documenting traditional knowledge, occupations, customary sustainable use, livelihood mechanisms and supporting and facilitating territorial management and monitoring, and helping communities shape the political and legal strategies needed to secure their rights to their lands. This work is done with a specific focus on land rights, including the gender dimensions of land rights.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including in a cross-cultural context, must be fluent in both spoken and written French and English, have at least three years' working experience related to indigenous peoples and/or local communities’ rights, human rights, community development, organizational development, social and environmental awareness, or a similar field, including experience working directly with communities.
