Did you know there is still a cancer with five year survival rates of less than 5%? Pancreatic cancer is the tenth most common cancer in the UK, with 9,400 people diagnosed each year, and yet for decades this dreadful disease had remained on the side-lines.
But things are changing.
Over the last five years Pancreatic Cancer UK has become a force to be reckoned with. In just a few short years their achievements have been impressive: survival rates have improved for the first time in forty years; investment in pancreatic cancer research across the UK has doubled; and they have lobbied to ensure that the first ever clinical guidelines for pancreatic cancer are now being developed. In addition, they have smashed through their fundraising targets, with annual income rocketing from under £500,000 to almost £5 million.
Now, with an ambitious, bold strategy in place, new premises, and a significantly expanded team, they are set to do it again. The ten-year vision is to transform the future for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer, and over the next five years this will mean doubling income to £10 million, as well as continuing to rapidly extend the charity’s reach, profile and impact.
To realise all this, Pancreatic Cancer UK need an outstanding Director of Fundraising and Marketing whose energy, creativity and drive will match that of the current leadership team. You will be an experienced and confident fundraising professional with significant cross-organisational marketing experience. Working alongside the Development Fund Board (led by Chairman of KPMG Simon Collins) you will network the charity into potential major donors and corporate partners to secure high value gifts and partnerships. You will also work closely with teams across the charity to develop new ways to enhance other fundraising activities, and engage supporters, health professionals, policy makers and other stakeholders in Pancreatic Cancer UK’s work.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is taking on one of the toughest cancers in the world. By directly supporting those affected by the disease, investing in research, and lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer, the charity is there to support everyone involved in the fight. Building on their impressive track record, the charity’s new Director of Fundraising and Marketing will be fundamental to this. An inspirational and driven leader, with a ‘can do’ attitude and collaborative management approach, you will be at the forefront of transforming the future for people with pancreatic cancer.
Essential prerequisites include having extensive experience at senior level in fundraising across a broad range of fundraising streams, in particular major giving, corporate, trusts and community; having experience of leading a small team, planning and implementing operational plans; having an excellent track record of achievement in setting and meeting ambitious income targets; possessing a relevant professional qualification (desirable) and evidence of supporting the professional development of others; and having experience of providing leadership for marketing and/or communications activity.
