Managing Director

Future First International is a new charity looking to take Future First’s work building alumni networks in state schools in the UK to other countries.

Former students can be inspirational role models, work experience providers and mentors to current students at their old schools. They can also support schools as donors and governors. When Future First was launched in the UK five years ago, less than 1% of non-selective state secondary schools ran alumni networks. Today that number is around 20%.

The independent international charity is being launched on the back of a report sponsored by the Open Society Foundations into the prevalence, purpose and potential of alumni networks in other countries. The report is available at:

The strategy is to build an organisation to use this report and additional research to help governments, school leaders, social entrepreneurs and educationalists to catalyse best practice alumni network building in other countries.

We are not seeking to become a programmatic organisation but through consultancy, research and advocacy, to come to impact thousands of schools globally and, in doing so, the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people.

We are seeking a Managing Director to help launch the organisation. They will be supported by one additional full time team member who will report to them and have the support of a small trustee board and a one day a week CEO (Future First Founder Jake Hayman).

Considerable travel will be involved and we are seeking someone with strong entrepreneurial abilities to help think through strategy and deliver results for the organisation. They will need to be able to work with high level government officials as well as press and educational thought leaders. We are looking for someone with drive and ambition who can provide leadership for the organisation – attitude and aptitude are ultimately more important to us than experience. We need someone prepared to do the hard work to establish this organisation and be conscious of the fact that in the first instance, they will not have big budgets of staff teams to call upon and so will need to be prepared to help get done what needs to be done across all aspects of the organisation.

The Managing Director will also be responsible for providing support and advice to our Kenyan and American partnerships – Future First Kenya and Future First USA.

This role is for an initial 12 month contract, we have no guaranteed funding beyond that but are confident that with the right person, we will not be able to just renew their contract but significantly expand their team.

This contract includes a 3 month probationary period.

We are recruiting for someone to start as soon as possible but are ultimately able to wait longer for the right candidate.
