Arthritis Research UK is leading the fight against arthritis.  We’re working to take the pain away for people with arthritis, helping them to remain active. We do this by funding high class research, providing information and campaigning. Everything we do is underpinned by research.

As the fourth largest medical research charity in the UK, we have already achieved a lot.  Since our foundation in 1936 the treatment of arthritis has changed beyond recognition.  With the vision of a future free from the pain and suffering of arthritis we are committed to an ambitious 10 year strategy with 10 clear goals.  We have grown considerably over the last eighteen months and are now looking to recruit a Head of Communications & Brand to lead the communications and brand activities of Arthritis Research UK as a key driver for achievement of the Charity’s goals, devising the strategy and business plan for communications, brand and corporate marketing. Working with the Fundraising & Communications Director the Head would be accountable for the communications, brand and corporate marketing budget, implementing the agreed strategy and business plan, delivering to the highest standards of professionalism.

The successful candidate will have significant experience (circa 10 years) in communications including PR and/or brand and marketing and of simultaneously leading multiple projects or client teams, along with substantive in-house experience in a communications or brand management role in addition to knowledge and/or experience of working within an agency. You will possess a desire to embrace 'channel neutral' working, adjusting the communications channels per project/ story and have a proven ability at navigating 'barriers' to ensure delivery - can do attitude combined with a skilled approach and judgement about how to handle barriers/issues. You should have the ability to successfully develop campaigns that lead to social change i.e. change in attitudes and behaviours, based on relevant insight along with experience of leading complex campaigns with multiple stakeholder groups.
