Walking together, standing out from the crowd

Breast Cancer Care is the only specialist UK-wide charity dedicated to providing emotional and practical support for anyone affected by breast cancer.

Emma Claridge, senior events manager - walks & bespoke challenges, tells us about what it’s like to work in her team.

Ribbonwalk

Passionate team

It’s a lot of fun working here! That’s mainly due to our passionate team. As one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, most of us know someone who has been diagnosed, so we’re proud to go the extra mile to raise as much money as possible with this one cause in mind.

Everything we do has a ‘care’ element to it - from our services and fundraising activities to our emails. We are front facing with those affected by breast cancer and do everything we can to raise the vital funds we need to help people live with, through and beyond breast cancer.

Open culture

We recently moved to an open plan agile working environment - a very positive change that enables us to collaborate with other teams more easily. As a fundraising and events team we are privileged to be situated in the same place as our Helpline and support services, so we can see the tangible benefits of the hard work we put in.

It’s very humbling to bump into people around the office who have used our services. They tell us how valuable our support and information is, it makes our work more rewarding. Our open culture means that everyone is interested in what each other is doing and we can support different areas of the charity’s work.

Career development

It’s very exciting to lead an events team with so much scope for progression. I’m proud to say we’ve had a number of internal promotions recently. Everyone is working towards their next step, thinking about how the team will look in the future and how people can develop.

We offer great options for learning and development, including the opportunity to apply for a training bursary scheme. We encourage an integrated team spirit regardless of what level people are at.

Pink Ribbon Tour

Bespoke events

As a small to medium sized charity, one of my team’s biggest challenges is to make our events stand out. We create events that are bespoke to our audience, ensuring people have a fantastic time and return year after year. We’re surrounded by a great team and a huge number of volunteers and supporters - this creates an amazing atmosphere.

Pink Ribbonwalks are our flagship event. The sponsored walks to date have raised more than £12 million, taking place across iconic UK locations, including Blenheim Palace and three other walks this year (May to July).

We’re proud to be the official charity partner for the Women’s Tour in 2017, bringing 1000 women together in our Pink Ribbon Tour to cycle through London’s streets on 11th June following the same route as the professionals.
