Whether you are already in a marketing and comms position in the private sector or looking to embark on the start a new career in the charity sector, here are a few points that charities look for in people.

  • To start with the candidate needs understand the organisation and diversity of the audiences the charity is looking to influence.
  • An ability to know where and how to seek out new opportunities shows great initiative but they also need the confidence to pursue them.
  • A solid writing ability is essential along with passion for the job and organisation.
  • Creative flare and strong work ethic will mean you will fit in with most charity marketing jobs.

There are some charities who actively seek candidates who have previous experience working in the private sector. The reason being is they look for the dynamism of people who have worked for businesses that have allowed them to develop a broad range of skills. But most importantly they have to be extremely passionate about the cause of the charity and their role.
