The charity hit the headlines last year when they harnessed the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for cancer support. Macmillian has seen substantial growth over the past two to three years. Last year their supporters raised a record-breaking £186.9 million to fund the charity’s work in support of people affected by cancer, £34.1 million more than in 2012. This phenomenal growth is the direct result of placing research and insight at the heart of all fundraising activity, driving the development and evaluation of strategy and fundraising products.
To this end, a fantastic new opportunity has arisen to help drive fundraising innovation and product development at the charity. They are looking to recruit an Innovation Scout to identify, research and report on any market trends or changing market conditions that can be maximised to boost the charity’s performance.
The role will involve scanning, filtering, evaluating and reporting on cutting-edge digital developments, world-wide innovations and start-ups as well as monitoring competitor fundraising activity to highlight opportunities and threats. It will be about identifying new platforms that Macmillian can harness and monetise – the candidate will be encouraged to establish and build relationships externally with forward-thinking individuals or organisations that can help them achieve their fundraising goals.
The job specification for this exciting new role is meant to be a guideline, but it is an ideal opportunity for a digitally savvy self-starter to make their own. You will be the sort of person who will pick up the phone to a start-up and find out what they are doing and identify the commercial opportunity this could offer to boost fundraising.
The successful candidate will work closely with key members of the fundraising department including the digital, innovation and product development teams so you will need excellent communication, influencing and customer management skills. In addition you should be a highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment, with the ability to work both well on your own and as a member of a team.
