Job Description

This permanent Country Director position (UK) leads the UK senior leadership team.

This role will lead World Animal Protection's activities in the UK as part of building a global movement for sustainable animal protection at scale. This role will focus on delivery of the global strategy by ensuring that the local plans and activities reflect global objectives and that these are delivered efficiently and effectively, while meeting global functional commitments that have been made. Externally this role will be an ambassador for World Animal Protection's global strategy, internally it will ensure that local insight, knowledge, opportunities and challenges inform their work.

Leadership

  • Enable and ensure that the UK team play their part in delivering the global strategy
  • Deliver global pieces of work such as fundraising initiatives, programmatic delivery, and Organisational Development project work as directed
  • Promote the contributions of strategic partners, including income from the philanthropic community, within World Animal Protection's global network
  • Network and demonstrate thought leadership in fora that will raise the profile of the organisation among key stakeholders



Functional

Programmes, Fundraising, Communications, and Resources

  • Ensure UK perspectives are contributed to the development of global strategies
  • Work in collaboration with the global Senior Leadership Team (including other Country Directors) to share learning, experience and where required deliver on joint projects
  • Aid in the delivery of the global growth strategy and solicitation of UK based Global Priority Funders (Significant Major Donors)
  • Working with International Finance & Resources, ensure regulatory compliance with local governance arrangements, and statutory reporting



Management

Lead and manage the UK team by:

  • Fostering a culture that promotes World Animal Protection's Global Values and Behaviours
  • Using coaching, professional development, collaboration and self-awareness to help colleagues contribute to the best of their abilities
  • Provide leadership to the UK team, embedding effective ways of working within the teams and across functions



Finance

  • Oversee the development of the country office budget in liaison with the local and International Finance teams
  • Take overall responsibility for the effective and efficient management of delegated budget in accordance with World Animal Protection's financial procedures and local governance regulations
  • Serve as an authorised signatory and approver on all requisite bank accounts



Organisational responsibilities

  • Delivery of World Animal Protection's Global Strategy and Values in a global, matrix environment
  • Work cooperatively with external organisations, teams within World Animal Protection and in the wider animal welfare movement to pursue programme objectives and wider organisational goals, including those relating to brand, communications, fundraising and resource management
  • Actively participate in building the brand and maintain the integrity of the brand to support their profile, lead generation, income and engagement
  • Help secure growth in their income, brand and engagement (people and partnerships) by contributing to the relationships with supporters, funders and other partners



The postholder may occasionally be required to travel internationally to provide support or participate in World Animal Protection's activities.

The Successful Applicant

  • Substantial experience of working in an international environment
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire, grow and manage teams to deliver results on time, within budget and to deadlines within periods of organisational change
  • Experience of senior level networking, developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and in representing an organisation to external stakeholders at all levels including Media
  • Strong understanding at a strategic level of income generation (ideally fundraising) and growth and able to bring value in relation to major giving and partnerships
  • Experience of working in an international campaigning organisation at a senior level
  • Experience of developing engagement approaches that convey complex material and subject matter to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders
  • Experienced in and comfortable working with complex budgets and handling processes that deliver information and reports to a range of stakeholders
  • Give consent to be appointed to act as a company director for World Animal Protection Limited (ACN: 083 297 027) as directed
  • Be familiar with and experience of ensuring an organisation works within local regulatory and legal frameworks
  • A proven and successful track record of working with Boards of Trustees/Directors






 

What's on Offer

The salary for this role is £70,000-£74,000.

This role will require a combination of work from their offices in London and from home.
