The Role

 

We are looking for a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills to take our Charity into the next phase of its growth with a focus on fundraising and strategic development. With a passion for addressing the issue of homelessness and disadvantage across Greater Manchester, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Charity is progressive and keeping pace with change.

 

Working with the Board of Trustees and a small team you will develop the Charity’s strategy to ensure that we deliver innovative and impactful work streams built on insight and collaboration. In this role you will be responsible for designing and delivering a diverse fundraising strategy that seeks to generate income from a variety of sources. With excellent communication and people skills, you will be adept at maintaining and building new partnerships with senior stakeholders from a range of sectors. You will be responsible for ensuring the Charity is able to deliver its strategy and provide essential funding and support to innovative and proven initiatives that tackle homelessness and disadvantage across Greater Manchester.

Main Duties

 

Governance and Organisational Development:

 

  • Work with the Board and staff to set the Charity’s mission and strategy and ensure that it is effectively executed
  • Ensure the Board is continually trained to conduct effective governance
  • Ensure adoption of and adherence to the Charity`s values and ethical standards in all Charity business
  • Monitor and report on accountability standards and systems that track the Charity’s effectiveness and impact
  • Ensure that the Charity is fully compliant with all statutory audit and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that the Charity has all relevant policies and procedures in place and that these are up to date and follow best practice guidance
  • Support the Chair to ensure the continuous improvement and development of the Charity

 

Fundraising & Grant Making:

 

  • Develop innovative and progressive approaches to the Charity’s grant-making that embed our values and are participatory in nature
  • Ensure that our funding is distributed and effectively utilised
  • Continuously drive the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Charity’s grant-making strategy
  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to support the Charity’s aims and ambitions, including funder partnerships, a strong corporate supporter network and philanthropic income streams such as major donors, legacies and trusts and foundations
  • Responsible for meeting annual income targets as set by the Trustees, ensuring the Charity’s strategy is financially sustainable

 

Engagement and Partnerships:

 

  • Act as the public face for the Charity, raising our profile and ensuring that the Charity is recognised as a key voice within the homelessness ecosystem
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of homelessness issues and policy on a local and national scale to enable us to act as an advocate for change
  • Contribute to the vision and thought leadership in addressing homelessness, working collaboratively with the wider homelessness ecosystem across Greater Manchester
  • Build and sustain strong relationships across the sector with multiple external stakeholders; non-profit delivery organisations; grantees, other funders, agencies and strategic partners
  • Keep alert to new trends and developments in philanthropy and the wider sector
  • Oversee all external communications, ensuring the Charity is represented positively across a range of platforms, including media enquiries, website and social media, creating and responding to new opportunities
  • Develop the Charity’s convening role, bringing organisations and people together to share learning and build knowledge as appropriate

 

Operational Management:

 

  • Take overall responsibility for financial and investment management, delivering accurate forecasting and reporting
  • Ensure the annual report and financial accounts are produced in a timely manner
  • Oversee the smooth running of all day-to-day operations of the Charity
  • Provide leadership and management to the Charity team, ensuring that they are supported, and their professional development is nurtured
  • Hold the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) role for the Charity, ensuring that all major organisational risks are identified and reviewed regularly by the Finance, Audit and Risk sub-committee and the Board, and implement effective actions to mitigate risk

 

The Person

 

Experience:

 

Essential

 

  • Demonstrable experience of leadership, strategic and organisational development, and delivering targets
  • Proven experience of financial management and budgeting
  • Strong experience of generating significant income from a variety of sources
  • Experience of building and maintaining successful relationships with multiple stakeholders, including corporate sponsors, public sector, policymakers, other funders, and individuals
  • Experience of managing a team of people
  • Relevant experience in Charity governance and working with a Board of Trustees
  • Experience setting and executing business plans based on budgets, forecasts, and strategy
  • Experience of using evidence and impact to steer strategy
  • A clear, demonstratable understanding of issues and policies related to homelessness both locally and nationally
  • Knowledge of the charity sector

 

Desirable

 

  • Knowledge of investment management
  • An understanding of modern grant-making
