Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK’s leading cancer care charity, is looking for a talented press officer to join its Media & PR team. We’re looking for someone ambitious and proactive, who can use their PR skills to promote our brand, services, and influence policy makers to campaign for change to help people affected by cancer.

Are you able to spot a news angle a mile off? Can you write compelling statements and press releases that will make journalists sit up and take notice? Are you looking for a varied role within a friendly team?

If so, this could be the job for you. Every day is different. You could be briefing a spokesperson ready for an appearance on BBC Breakfast, writing a statement about changes to welfare, writing a feature on tips for the friends and family of cancer patients for a consumer publication or drafting a comment piece for a trade publication. We’re therefore looking for an all-rounder who can hit the ground running.

We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in delivering successful PR campaigns that have generated high quality media coverage across a range of channels and had a tangible impact.

We want someone who can use a range of tactics, such as placing case study stories, using statistics to craft a hook for a news story and using digital and social media techniques. We want a self-starter who thrives under pressure and is able to meet tight deadlines but who is also able to communicate well and work collaboratively with colleagues in a range of teams.

The ideal candidate will have relationships with journalists in a range of media. They will have excellent planning and time management skills and be able to effectively evaluate their PR work and use the insight to drive improvement.

At Macmillan, we’re committed to actively developing our staff and can offer you plenty of scope for learning and development. We offer a range of benefits including private medical insurance, life assurance, pension, childcare vouchers, generous annual leave, and interest free loans for season ticket and gym membership.
