As the nation’s heart charity and the biggest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK, the British Heart Foundation is a strong, highly effective and well respected charity, both nationally and internationally. Our work saves lives – tens of thousands in the UK each year alone – and enhances the lives of many more.

Whilst we are already one of the UK’s leaders in fundraising, we know we can do more to help inspire the millions affected by cardiovascular disease every year to join us and fight for every heartbeat.

About the role

This new role offers the opportunity to radically transform BHF fundraising. Rapidly evolving consumer expectations, new regulations and a crowded market mean that we must continue to delight both new and existing supporters even more, in order to meet our ambitious research objectives.

BHF is looking to appoint an exceptional leader who will set-up and steer an ambitious new team, working across the entire fundraising portfolio whilst driving excellence in strategy development, innovation, planning and performance and compliance. You will help to establish the foundations for future success, to ensure that more lives are saved and more families kept together.

About you

This person will have a breadth of vision, exceptional skills in strategic insight and analysis, a determination to succeed, combined with clear senior leadership and collaboration experience. The successful candidate will also thrive in a complex and challenging setting, which engages staff and supporters right across the Fundraising function and wider organisation.

Experience of leading large cross-functional teams across a range of relevant disciplines will be crucial; as will the ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising methods and principles across the directorate. Candidates will also need to be adept at managing complex budgets and have experience of both interpreting and reporting on key information and results. A collaborative, determined, open and honest approach, to align with the organisation’s values will also be vital.
