JOB TITLE: Head of Fundraising

RESPONSIBLE TO: Managing Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Fundraising

CONTRACT: Part-Time, Permanent

HOURS OF WORK: 20 hours per week

SALARY: £40k pro rata     (£21k actual salary)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Fundraising will be part of a small dedicated team supporting children with additional needs and their families. Skylarks is seeking a seasoned, creative, and outstanding relationship builder, with strong proposal writing and persuasive speaking skills to fill this Senior Management Team position. You will lead on securing approximately £450,00 annual income to ensure the charity can provide our activities and services for children with disabilities and their families.

You will work closely with the Head of Operations to convert learnings, project concepts and programming into compelling offers to trusts, foundations and institutional funders. You will lead on the writing of the most strategically important proposals with a focus on long-term, multi-year applications. You will also manage and be supported by the Fundraising Team, who will focus on generating income from corporates, events and other unrestricted sources.

You will help open doors to potential new funding, securing opportunities to present the work of Skylarks to grant funding decision-makers. Secured grants are managed by the Operations team who then produce reports for funders. Your involvement in this process will be co-ordinating the reports and ensuring they also work as a fundraising tool.

As a member of the Senior Management Team you will contribute to the organisation's strategic leadership plan, leading a fundraising function and implementing the strategy, including strengthening strategic fundraising and executing annual plans. You will report to the Managing Director and share progress with the senior management and Board leadership regularly, while ensuring direct input into our Board’s Fundraising Committee.

Although all team members are based locally in Richmond Upon Thames and the surrounding London Boroughs, we are all working remotely. This role is expected to continue working remotely for the foreseeable future, with journeys into Richmond and the surrounding London Boroughs where necessary.

We expect you to live our organisational values. We believe that diversity of people, ideas and cultures enriches our insights into our work and our relationship with each other. Being an inclusive organisation matters a lot to us. The existing team comes from different backgrounds and walks of life, so you can expect yourself to be embraced.

The post offers significant opportunities for innovation, development and growth of existing services, working closely with counterpart roles in other organisations, and contributing to joint development and working groups locally and regionally.

Our Story

Skylarks provides a supportive and active community. We care for the whole family, providing opportunities to join in, develop and feel empowered. We want to remove the isolation that can be felt by families and their children who have a disability or additional needs. We are based in Richmond upon Thames but have an open-door policy. Anyone, from anywhere, is welcome!

The charity was originally founded as Me too & Co by a group of parent volunteers in 2006 to fill a gap in the local community where there was a lack of support. You can read more about our founder and beginnings here. In April 2019, we rebranded and officially changed our name to Skylarks Charity (or Skylarks for short) with the support of our corporate partner Haymarket Media Group. Most recently we have been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the wonderful team of dedicated volunteers we have supporting our cause.

Over 3000 families have now registered to use our services and the list is growing! Over the past 15 years the organisation has continued to grow. We have expanded from first providing inclusive play sessions to now offering a wide range of therapies, activities and services that are often otherwise inaccessible to families. These include services such as hydrotherapy, counselling, inclusive activities like drama and karate and free advice for Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Our independence as a charity means we are able to develop our programme in line with the needs of our families; something that has always been and remains important to us. We do not apply for or receive any statutory funding from government or local authorities.

Why Join Skylarks?

It’s an exciting time to join our team as we look to spread our wings, expanding to deliver to more families across the surrounding boroughs.

From meeting inspiring children and families to watching them grow and flourish, Aaron Guiver, managing director, describes why Skylarks is such a rewarding charity to work for. Read full story here.

Skylarks has continued to grow significantly over the last few years, with a 30% year on year increase in the number of services we deliver to families. Skylarks believe in innovating and adapting its services depending on the needs of the families we support. We have a small but dedicated team and we are always looking to add exciting new members to our inclusive team.
