Senior Adviser (Political Finance and Regulation) 

Our client is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote. 

Position: Senior Adviser (Guidance) 
Location: London 
Job type: Full Time, 1 year Fixed Term Contract 
Salary: £39,378 per annum

About the role: 

The Senior Advisor will support our client’s work on the development and co-ordination of the company’s operational guidance on political finance issues, targeted at supporting participation in the democratic process and driving compliance with the rules. 

Responsibilities: 

- Develop and deliver resources to support participation in the democratic process and drive compliance with the rules through: Development of UK-wide, GB-wide, nation and region specific guidance & materials. Co-ordination of training and briefing programmes on political finance issues 
- Support the maintenance and monitoring of the Commission’s regulatory framework for political finance and regulation 
- Supporting colleagues across the offices in taking compliance action where necessary and appropriate 
- Work closely with colleagues in the Elections and Electoral Registration Guidance teams to ensure that guidance products managed by the Commission are consistent 
- Provide an internal consultancy service on political finance issues and to contribute to Commission responses to political finance issues arising from legal judgments, Government initiatives and statutory consultations on draft legislation, or other sources 
- Support the development of high quality, consistent and timely advice to queries from external sources, working closely with staff in the Financial Reporting team and the Commission’s offices in Scotland, Wales and across England 
- Support the maintenance of the Commission’s web pages for political finance guidance 
- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with key stakeholders, representing the Commission at relevant meeting 
- Deliver the work programme in accordance with the Commission’s approach to programme and project management taking on specified role(s) as necessary 

About you: 

- Educated to degree level or suitable professional qualification or equivalent relevant work experience 
- Experience of working with legislation and the ability to offer advice to others on its application 
- Experience of delivering guidance, training or advice services 
- Knowledge of current UK political finance law and practice 
- Substantial experience of working in a regulatory environment and with legislation 
- Strong oral and written communication skills 
- Strong time management skills, experienced at managing multiple time pressures 
- Proven ability to make high quality decisions based on analytical and problem solving skills, i.e., able to identify problems, gather and evaluate information and recommend solutions 
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
- Good IT skills, able to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet along with the capacity to learn new applications 
- Experience of delivering work through formal project management methodologies 
- Ability to lead and direct others in delivering objectives successfully
